Assignment Blog: Bio Cube ✦

 Summary…—

In this blog, if you couldn't tell already from the title, I’ll be going over my bio cube assignment. In this assignment we made a bio cube and presented our bio cube to our period and class. Since you might be wondering, "What is a bio cube?" well basically, a bio cube is a cube that is all about you. On each side of the bio cube, it talks about something that relates to you. The six sides of the bio cube are, Name, Background, Personality, Significance, Obstacles, and last but not least, a Quote that you live by. When we started this assignment back in Summer Bridge, we were given a plan out sheet. Basically, it was to help us draft out what it was going to say on each side. For example, for the quote side of the bio cube, you had to write a quote from someone or from your favorite song down for that section on the planning sheet. Afterwards, you would then have to write down why you live by it and why it's important to you. As I mentioned at the beginning, we also had to present our bio cubes. We would share one side of our bio cube to our period and share multiple times until we've covered all sides. First, we would start in A101, then afterwards we would move on to cafeteria and finally we would head on over towards the outdoor stage. This was to teach us how to we have to control our volume when we are sharing. We want to be heard and focused on. Not ignored and forgotten. We also learned five simple steps to presenting or sharing. This was very useful when we talked about our bio cubes.

Highlights…—

Some things I would like to highlight about this assignment are my obstacle and quote side of my bio cube. On my obstacle side of my cube, some of my obstacles are distractions and memorizing. I really want to try to at least be able to focus more and remember things better. I'm going to try my hardest to get rid of these obstacles as best as I can. Even though it's guaranteed to be a problem multiple times throughout my life, I will try my best to make its occurrences minimal. Then my second highlight is my Quote side of my bio cube. My Quote that I had put on my bio cube was a quote from Steve Jobs. It says, "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." This year, as I begin to sink into middle school and figure out how things work, I want to try as many things as I can and do the things I want to do. I don't want to waste any opportunity that I would regret.

Lowlight…—

A few things that I would call a lowlight of this assignment, would be the fact that I made two punctuation errors on my bio cube and only realized it after I completed it, and it was already hung above our desks. The other would be not being loud enough or forgetting my words while I was sharing on the stage. I even pronounced some words wrong which was quite terrible and a fumble on my part. However, at the last time we presented, my volume got a bit better, and my period members could somewhat hear me.

 Lesson Learned…—

Throughout this entire assignment, I learned many things but the most important things I learned was about myself. I learned that I'm not a very loud person and that I can be suddenly unfocused at the wrong times. During presentations, I did well when we shared in A101 and in the cafeteria but when I got outside, I wasn't loud enough for everyone to hear me. I tried over a few times when I was sharing my bio cube, but it wasn't very clear or loud. It was more like they could hear me slightly but could barely make out my words. I even tried yelling at some point, but it only resulted in me getting a sidewards thumb. That meant that my volume wasn't clear or good enough. In addition to my volume, I discovered I'm not very focused sometimes. As I presented, I lost my train of thought, and I stopped talking. Which, in my opinion, is the worst thing to happen when sharing. While it not only makes your audience focus on you, but it also makes them focus on you for a reason you don't want. Which in my situation was because I suddenly stopped talking. I will make sure next time to not abruptly lose focus and to make sure it doesn't happen again by practicing sharing a few times and thinking about my words.

 What I Would Change…—

This assignment was quite meaningful but something that I would add or change to this assignment is that when we speak, even though there were noises already that we had to be louder than, I believe that if there were more things that stood as obstacles or problems as we were presenting, I definitely would try to be louder and make my words across to my audience. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I think that if there were more challenges, this assignment would hold even more significance than it already has. Since I think that people mostly remember and learn when there are great challenges that they think may or may not overcome throughout or after the assignment.

GLOs LIST:

1. Self-directed learner
I was a self-directed learner because I asked my peers questions about the bio cube, so I completed understood the assignment.
2. Community contributor
I showed this GLO by helping other people help me tape their bio cubes.
3. Complex Thinker
I showed this GLO by asking Ms. deGuzman to reprint a side of my bio cube when I made a spelling error and not suffering in silence.
4. Quality Producer
I was a quality producer because made sure my bio cube was my best work and that it wasn't lazy or rushed.
5. Effective Communicator
I asked my peers to help me with taping and putting together my bio cube. We helped each other figure out by communicating.
6. Effective & Etheical User of Tech
I displayed this GLO by using the computer or on my phone to go on Canva and create or finish up my bio cube.
